A friend of mine was telling me he was worried about his niece. She’s in a relationship that is very obviously toxic. Bad news. And her explanation to him was, “I’m just really confused.”
She said, “He says really nice things about me. He compliments me. He opens doors. He talks about God. He wants to go to church. But at the same time, he constantly criticizes what I wear. He tries to change my style. He makes me feel guilty if I don’t go to church with him multiple times a week. He wants me to share my location all the time. He asks about my exes and who I’m talking to. There’s so much good and so much bad. I’m confused.”
She’s not confused.
She’s having a hard time facing the truth. None of the “good” outweighs the fact that this guy is a straight-up narcissist. The good just makes the truth harder to face.
I see this everywhere. People say they’re confused about relationships. Confused about their career. Confused about what it takes to be successful.
They’re not confused.
The laws of success are not complicated.
Getting better is hard.Changing your life requires work, focus, and discipline.
When someone says they’re confused, what they usually mean is they don’t want to face what this is going to cost them.
Clarity shows up the moment you stop avoiding the truth.
