I’ve noticed something about being busy.
Busy feels important. Busy feels productive. Busy makes you feel like you’re doing something meaningful with your life.
It’s also one of the best hiding places on earth.
There are seasons where I am “insanely busy”. Meetings. Calls. Projects. Travel. Nonstop motion. And if I’m being honest, some of that busyness is probably just me avoiding the one or two hard decisions that actually mattered.
It’s amazing how much random activity you can generate when you don’t want to look at the real problem.
Busy can look like ambition.
Busy can look like growth.
Busy can even look like leadership.
Sometimes it’s just sophisticated procrastination.
I’ve had to check myself on this more than once. Am I building something that moves the needle? Or am I stacking tasks so I can tell myself I’m “grinding” while the important stuff sits untouched?
The truth is, being busy is easy. You can always find another email to send. Another meeting to schedule. Another idea to chase.
Clarity is harder. Cutting things is harder. Saying no is harder. Sitting still long enough to think is harder.
The older I get, the less impressed I am by full calendars.
I’m way more interested in results.
Because nobody ever built something durable by being “really, really busy.” They built it by doing the right things consistently and ignoring the rest.
